Good morning,
You may have seen over the past week our social media posts regarding some coaching changes. We wanted to be sure these updates were sent out as many ways as possible so please share with your association’s coaches & other team staff.
Make Ethical Decisions Update:
If you are a coach who is part way through completing your MED, please take a look at the important updates regarding the MED we have added to our website: COMMUNITY SOFTBALL - Softball Alberta or COMPETITION INTRODUCTION - Softball Alberta. As of April 1, 2026 there will be some changes that could interfere with your access or progress of the course, which means you may be at risk of having to completely start over & pay for the course again if you are only partway completed on April 1. This change is not only for Softball, so if you are involved in coaching other sports you may have already received news about this.
Please note: the MED is a part of the Community Softball & Comp Intro NCCP Softball pathways, so it still remains a mandatory course to complete if you need either of those levels of Softball NCCP training. You will not receive full certification at either level without the MED.
Female Coach Requirements Update (MINOR ONLY):
Starting this year, the female coach on Provincial & Tiering rosters must have Foundations of Coaching Softball Part 1 PLUS either Safe Sport Training OR Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation complete on their NCCP transcript.
This means if a female coach has previously completed their MED, we will still accept that along with the FOCS 1 course. The FOCS 1 course is mandatory no matter what, there is no change with that portion. If a coach is starting from scratch, they will have the option of either Safe Sport Training or MED for the other portion of the requirement. If the female coach has intentions of eventually taking either Community Softball or Comp Intro courses in the future, MED is strongly recommended as that is a part of the training pathway anyways.
